Key Highlights:

  • Rick Grimes and Michonne join Dead by Daylight as Survivors on July 29, 2025.
  • Daryl Dixon appears as a Legendary Outfit for Rick in The Walking Dead Collection.
  • Includes voice work from Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, new perks, cosmetics, and a themed map tile.

After years of speculation and fan demand, Dead by Daylight has officially unveiled its long-awaited collaboration with AMC’s The Walking Dead. Take a look at the brief official trailer below:

Previously teased just yesterday, this exciting new collab will be launching July 29th, 2025, the major new Chapter will introduce Rick Grimes and Michonne as playable Survivors, complete with unique perks, alternate cosmetics, and a haunting new tile for the Garden of Joy map. The Public Test Build (PTB) is now live for players eager to preview the crossover.

In a move that sets this crossover apart from previous ones, original voice performances from Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Norman Reedus (Daryl) have been included, bringing authenticity and immersion to the game’s post-apocalyptic twist.

Rick and Michonne Join the Fight

Two of the series’ most beloved characters take centre stage in this update:

  • Rick Grimes, former sheriff and core protagonist of The Walking Dead, comes equipped with three perks:
    • Apocalyptic Ingenuity: Replace broken pallets with fragile ones after rummaging through chests.
    • Come and Get Me!: Rescue others while staying undetected, briefly masking allies’ conditions in exchange for exposing your own location.
    • Teamwork: Toughen Up: Temporarily conceal trail indicators when nearby teammates land pallet stuns.
  • Michonne, the iconic katana-wielding warrior, also arrives with three new perks:
    • Conviction: Gain the chance to self-recover while Dying, but risk becoming Broken if healing isn’t completed in time.
    • Last Stand: Punish the Killer with a vault-based stun after prolonged proximity outside of chase.
    • Teamwork: Toughen Up: Grants nearby injured Survivors Endurance and aura vision after a successful pallet stun.

Though both share a version of Teamwork: Toughen Up, the activation mechanics differ based on the Survivor, adding strategic depth depending on which character players choose.

Daryl Dixon Appears as a Legendary Outfit

While not a full Survivor, Daryl Dixon enters the Fog through a Legendary Outfit for Rick. Included as part of The Walking Dead Collection, the skin transforms Rick into Daryl, both visually and vocally, using lines performed by Norman Reedus. The collection also features:

  • Rick: “Last Day on Earth” and “Brutal Awakening” Outfits, along with multiple Uncommon recolours
  • Michonne: “The Next World” and “What We Become” looks, plus Uncommon variants

A New Map Tile Brings The Walking Dead’s Horror Into DBD

Whenever Rick or Michonne are in play, a special tile spawns in the Garden of Joy map, styled after key locations from the AMC series. Notably, it includes:

  • The “Don’t Open, Dead Inside” hospital doors from the show’s pilot
  • Prison architecture from seasons 3 and 4, all tainted by the Entity’s corruption

This creates a seamless blend of both horror franchises, bridging the worlds of Dead by Daylight and The Walking Dead through location design and atmospheric detail.

Canon-Friendly Backstory Ties to the Main Series

The narrative setting for the crossover cleverly connects to The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, placing events just after Rick’s apparent death on the bridge.

While the TV audience knows he survived, the in-game lore imagines Rick pulled into the Fog during this unknown period.

Michonne’s appearance follows her hearing his voice and chasing it into the darkness, echoing her journey in the series.

Technical Features and Availability

The crossover launches for all platforms – PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 29, with the PTB version already available.

Cross-Play and Cross-Friends are fully supported, allowing players to build friend lists across platforms and face trials together in the Entity’s realm, regardless of system.

This DBD x TWD crossover looks to be something special. Fans of both horror IPs have a lot to look forward to when the chapter fully launches late July.
