Capcom has officially revealed the first gameplay footage for Resident Evil Requiem, showcasing the game’s ability to switch between first and third-person perspectives during the campaign.
The footage aired during the Capcom Spotlight event and gave fans their first look at Grace Ashcroft, the game’s new protagonist, navigating dark environments and confronting a hulking, shadow-drenched bio-organic threat.
Ashcroft, an FBI analyst and daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak character Alyssa Ashcroft, brings a fresh perspective to the franchise.
Unlike previous protagonists such as Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine, she lacks battlefield experience.
According to director Koshi Nakanishi, this makes RE Requiem a more grounded, character-driven survival horror game, where players experience Grace’s growth over time.
The gameplay snippets showed Grace exploring a dimly lit corridor with only a lighter in hand, invoking tension and vulnerability.
A second sequence showed her handling a handgun with care as she methodically examined a toolbox, reinforcing her analytical approach over brute force.
A third clip briefly demonstrated third-person exploration through a decaying hallway, offering a more action-focused perspective.
Capcom confirmed that players can switch freely between perspectives using the Options menu.
The first-person view emphasises fear and immersion, while third-person is designed for players who prefer a broader situational awareness and more dynamic movement.
There wasn’t much to go off from the reveal trailer, as it only provided cutscenes and was more of a tease than anything. This new gameplay shows us what we can expect in the coming months as no-doubt more will be dropped by the devs.
Set three decades after the missile strike that obliterated Raccoon City at the end of Resident Evil 3, Requiem revisits the haunting legacy of the franchise’s ground zero.
Capcom explained that the title “RE Requiem” represents a eulogy to the franchise’s fallen — a thematic return to the emotional core of survival horror.
Despite speculation, there was no reveal of Leon S. Kennedy. Whether he or other legacy characters appear in the campaign remains unknown, though the door is clearly open for future reveals.
Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
