EA have revealed the Enchanted by Nature expansion for The Sims 4, and it reshapes the familiar life sim with a layered nature-based gameplay loop.
Take a look at the brand new official gameplay trailer below:
At the heart of the expansion is the return of Fairies, a long-requested Sim type reimagined with complex emotional dependencies, branching morality, and ecological integration.
Set in the verdant land of Innisgreen, this expansion offers new mechanics tied to balance, mood, and environment, alongside aesthetic and functional upgrades like glowing tattoos, magical plants, and elixir crafting.
It’s one of the boldest thematic shifts The Sims 4 has seen, reinforcing EA’s current focus on modular, player-driven storytelling through supernatural systems.
Fairies Feed on Feelings, Not Food
Fairies are no longer just sparkly winged overlays; they’re emotionally dependent lifeforms who sustain themselves by absorbing ambient feelings.
This means managing their hunger bar now involves absorbing emotions from other Sims or brewing bottled mood potions. Emotional Starvation isn’t just a quirk – it’s a survival mechanic with consequences.
Players can shape their Fairy Sims with a wide array of customisation options: wing styles, glowing skin patterns, ear and tooth types, and mythic accessories are all included. But aesthetic choices aside, the biggest fork in the path lies in alignment:
Fairy Path | Description |
---|---|
Harmonious | Healers and nurturers who balance moods and aid plant life |
Discordant | Agents of mischief who disrupt other Sims’ routines and amplify chaos |
Abilities tied to each path affect gameplay differently, Harmonious Fairies may unlock emotional stabilising actions, while Discordant ones get access to mood-altering pranks and object manipulation.
Emotional Balance Isn’t Optional
Innisgreen introduces the Balance mechanic, a system that tracks a Sim’s emotional harmony over time. As a Sim drifts away from equilibrium – through poor decisions, prolonged mood swings, or Fairy-induced disruptions, they gradually acquire Imbalance Levels, which slow skill growth and degrade Sim performance.
If left untreated, imbalance evolves into Ailments, each with unique buffs and debuffs:
Ailment | Effect |
---|---|
Greenie Meanie | Boosted Gardening skill, but constant anger and social backlash |
Simoleon Fever | Obsession with earning money at the cost of needs decay |
Sonic Sinuses | Increased auditory sensitivity, disrupting focus in noisy areas |
Emotional Void | Neutralises emotion buffs and makes bonding difficult |
These can be treated with handcrafted elixirs via the new Apothecary Table, using ingredients like Lightning Root, Aura Blossom, and Mood Bush, all of which are found through foraging and gardening.
Sims can follow the Naturopath career path or pursue the Elixir Enthusiast Aspiration, allowing them to monetise their herbalist lifestyle by curing others.
Innisgreen: Where Luck and Nature Intertwine
The new world is divided into three districts:
- Coast of Adhmor – A breezy seaside town with modest homes and a low-magic lifestyle
- Sprucederry Grove – A middle-ground hub of retail, ivy-covered houses, and subtle enchantment
- Everdrew – A dense forest where magic is abundant and fairies naturally flourish
Luck is also a new ambient variable in Innisgreen. Sims here may encounter randomised good, bad, or neutral luck, affecting career progression, romantic success, harvesting outcomes, and even elixir potency. Two luck charms – positive and negative, can be found or crafted to manipulate fate.
Natural Living and Occult Crossplay
For players embracing full off-grid living, the expansion introduces the Natural Living Skill and Nature Nomad Aspiration.
These systems allow Sims to thrive with no utilities, using herbal recipes, open-air baths, and fish-based diets.
Meanwhile, plant parenting also gains depth. Indoor plants now require watering, socialisation, and light management. They’re not just decor anymore, they’re living, growing elements in your Sim’s ecosystem.
The expansion also supports crosspack gameplay:
- Fairies can soothe Werewolves, purify Vampires, or heal Cats and Dogs with magic
- Apothecary crafting enables powerful universal elixirs for Occult Sims across multiple packs
- Fear of Magic may trigger in Sims who’ve had traumatic experiences with supernatural events (Realm of Magic tie-in)
EA partnered with creators including TheCrackedKyber, The Sim Scrolls, Ninahschmidt, and Sandra Pyka to design lots infused with Celtic and Irish architectural aesthetics. These builds are now live in the expansion and offer a curated, folklore-inspired atmosphere.
Each neighbourhood includes a range of activities from elixir lounges to enchanted cottage gardens, with layouts tailored for social play and creative storytelling.
The expansion’s original soundtrack blends indie and ethereal tones with tracks from FKA Twigs, Perfume Genius, Biig Piig, Florence Road, and others — all re-recorded in Simlish to preserve immersion. The full list is included in-game, creating a dreamy, forest-magic ambience as you explore Innisgreen.

Although The Sims 5 is currently in active development and has been rebranded as Project Rene, developers continue to regularly release high-quality content for the latest instalment.
At the back end of last year we had the Life and Death expansion, then at the start of this year EA released Businesses & Hobbies which introduced tattooing and pottery.
This latest content update looks really exciting and as of this writing there’s only 5 days to go!
