Key Highlights:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 confirmed with a full reveal set for later this summer.
  • Set in 2035, the campaign follows David Mason’s return amid a world destabilised by fear-based warfare.
  • Launches day one on Game Pass across Xbox and PC, with Zombies and new Multiplayer maps included.

Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, marking the first back-to-back Black Ops entries in the franchise’s history.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, the new title picks up more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6 and plunges players into the year 2035, where global conflict and mind manipulation dominate the battlefield.

Leading the narrative is David Mason, returning from Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 4, now commanding a high-tech team against a shadowy enemy who weaponises fear itself.

The cinematic teaser released during the Xbox Games Showcase hints at a reality-warping campaign, with imagery of folding cities, glitching TVs, and digital hallucinations, underscoring a psychological tone reminiscent of Alan Wake or Layers of Fear.

Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies: A Full Black Ops Package

Black Ops 7 will include a brand-new co-operative campaign designed for solo or squad play, focusing on tactical missions with near-future weaponry.

Multiplayer introduces a fresh set of maps built around the 2035 setting, while Round-Based Zombies returns to continue the Dark Aether storyline – offering a layered and familiar challenge for series veterans.

This is obviously COD’s crack at the futuristic FPS setting that DICE attempted with Battlefield 2042.

Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, describes the project as a culmination of fan demand and studio ambition:

“We wanted to keep players immersed in the Black Ops world and provide the most imaginative, complete experience possible. This is what the community has been asking for.”

Release Platforms and Game Pass Launch

When it launches later in 2025, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Xbox PC, Battle.net, and Steam.

It will also be playable on day one through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass – part of Activision’s post-acquisition strategy to bring flagship releases directly to subscribers.

More Reveals Coming Soon

Tyler Bahl, Head of Marketing at Activision Publishing, confirmed that this initial teaser is just the beginning:

“We’re layering in reveals and surprises all summer long. The teaser sets the tone—players should expect twists, clues, and the unhinged storytelling that defines Black Ops.”

The full gameplay reveal is scheduled for later this summer, likely aligning with seasonal content updates for Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

Until then, fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for narrative breadcrumbs and cryptic clues that may hint at what’s to come.
